Citizen is a diversified Japanese conglomerate best known for its watches, first introduced in 1924. Today, Citizen is recognised for producing mass-market luxury timepieces spanning quartz and Japanese-made mechanical movements. Its watch portfolio includes the brands Citizen, Bulova, Alpina, Frédérique Constant, Arnold & Son, Campanola and Q&Q. The company also supplies movements to a range of third-party watchmakers.
However, Citizen is more than a watch manufacturer, with only 67% of operating earnings derived from this segment. The company is also well regarded for its machine tools (21% of earnings) and electronic components (12% of earnings). Citizen’s multi-axis machine tools are widely respected in the automotive and semiconductor industries for their precision and reliability.
Citizen distributes its products globally, with watch sales in the United States concentrated in jewellery retail chains and department stores.
